The Ford GT sports car will be discontinued next year. However, in honor of the 1964 GT40 prototypes that preceded a string of "Le Mans" victories, Ford has launched the limited-edition Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition.
The new special joins five other Heritage Edition Ford GTs in a long line of tribute cars, each honoring a significant period in the GT40's history. The design inspiration for the '64 Prototype Heritage Edition comes from the GT/105, the only surviving GT40 prototype with the correct livery, which will be on show alongside the new car at Monterey Car Week.
Wimbledon White paint and Antimatter Blue decorations, including a triple racing stripe along the roof, are applied to the commemorative model based on the GT/105 livery. Antimatter Blue accents the painted carbon fiber wheels, while exposed gloss carbon fiber covers the front splitter, side sills, mirror stalks, and engine louvers. The retro-inspired design is completed by black wheel nuts, silver brake calipers, and unique Ford graphics of the rear wheel arches.
Carbon fiber door sills, lower A-pillars, and center console, as well as Lightspeed Blue Alcantara-trimmed carbon fiber seats, continuing the significant usage of carbon fiber on the inside. Ebony leather and the same Alcantara color are used on the instrument panel. Polished metal paddle shifters are mounted to an Ebony leather steering wheel, with Antimatter Blue accents on the instrument panel, door cards, and seat bracing.
The new Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition keeps the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 651 hp as the regular sports car, with no mechanical alterations. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to the rear wheels only, and the GT has a carbon fiber chassis with in-board pushrod suspension for ultimate track performance.
In addition to the Heritage Edition, Ford's Studio Collection series offers various external graphics packages for the GT. The liveries were created in partnership with Multimatic, the Ford GT's manufacturer, to highlight the car's significant stylistic aspects with adjustable accents.
Ford hasn't revealed production figures for the '64 Prototype Heritage Edition, but we predict roughly 50 models to be made based on previous Heritage Edition models. @via Ford.
