Neil Agius (35) swam more than 52 hours from the Italian island of Linosa, northeast of Lampedusa, and reached Malta's island of Gozo on Thursday night to the delight of his family and onlookers.

According to his team, he is now the swimmer who has covered the longest uninterrupted stretch in saltwater in history without any aids.

If the record is recognized, it will beat Chloe McCardel's previous record from 2014 with 124.4 kilometres.
