In Europe, Toyota is taking a more leisurely approach to purely electric passenger cars, but the situation is different for battery-powered light commercial vehicles. It was already known that the new launch would take place in cooperation with the French PSA group. It is now clear: Toyota's electric commercial vehicle will initially start as a van.

The details published by Toyota suggest that the technical basis comes from the PSA vehicles Peugeot e-Expert, Citroën ë-Jumpy and Opel Vivaro-e.

The 2021 Toyota PROACE Electric comes in three body lengths and two different battery sizes. Buyers can choose between a battery pack with 50 or 75 kWh capacity for a range of 230 or 330 kilometres in accordance with the WLTP standard. The engine output is always 100 kW (136 hp) with a maximum torque of 260 Nm. The top speed is limited to 130 km / h.

Ideally, the Proace Electric is charged at a public 100 kW station, and the 50 kWh battery can then be filled to 80 per cent in around 30 minutes. With the 75 kWh battery, it takes 45 minutes. The battery of the Proace Electric is located under the floor.

Depending on the model, the payload can be up to 1275 kilograms. The maximum trailer load is one ton.

The Toyota Proace Electric should be available from 33,000 euros.

The batteries are guaranteed for eight years or 160,000 kilometres.
